Abstract

Scabies is among the commonest ectoparasitic infections that is estimated to affect approximately 200 million people globally but is easily treatable with oral and topical treatments. It is however one of the most neglected diseases as patients tend to ignore their symptoms and donot seek medical professional help. This case report highlights the detrimental consequences of maltreated scabies. Our patient exhibited Cushingoid features and superadded bacterial infections, attributable to steroid abuse prescribed by unqualified individuals seeking to alleviate the itch associated with scabies. This case reinforces the urgent need for targeted educational initiatives aimed at vulnerable populations, including underprivileged communities, sexual workers and schools, to raise awareness about the prevention of scabies and the importance of seeking proper medical attention.
